 Who designates new marriages?
« Thread Started on Oct 31, 2009, 12:49am »

If a person has a coin that is not listed in the 4th edition of Overton's Early Bust Halves, (neither obverse or reverse is listed), who should the coin be sent to for confirmation/designation? ???

You have pics?

I would start with Steve Hermann...

Slumlord is also a good person to ask.

I believe both have accounts here.

All you need to do is post pictures of both the obverse, and the reverse. Chances are, if as you say, neither side is listed in the Overton book, what we have is a contemporary counterfeit. Keith Davignon wrote the book CONTEMPORARY COUNTERFEIT CAPPED BUST HALF DOLLARS, and a new edition is coming out any day now.

I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS/NGC/ICG/ANACS AU grades, with major emphasis on Half Dollars. I also collect the complete large set of Classic Commemoratives in PCGS/NGC/ICG MS63 or better.

Thank you both very much. The coin is 1794 though. For the Morgan and Peace dollar varieties, Leroy Van Allen does all designations, despite what anyone else has to say or thinks about it. I was hoping that he may have a counterpart equivalent for early halves. Has no one taken over this responsibility from Overton/Parsley?
